Course Objectives
The overall objective of the course is to equip participants with knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for appreciating the natural role and position of both men and women in society, understanding the current position and situation of women and youth in society in light of leadership, assess the challenges and opportunities for women in leadership, and equip participants with skills and tools necessary for creating an enabling environment for supporting women to join and succeed in leadership.
Course Content
- Introduction to women rights, leadership and the concept of feminism
- Where are the women leaders
- Do family responsibilities hold women back
- Is discrimination still a problem
- Do people resist women’s leadership
- Do women lead differently from men
- Do organizations and formal institutions compromise women’s leadership
- How do some women find their way to leadership
- How good are women leaders and what does their future hold
Target group
The course is designed for but not limited to women leaders, men and women seeking to support and increase women participation in leadership, gender and governance or women rights related programme managers and activists; local government staff and leaders, all practitioners working in civil society organizations, governmental agencies involved with governance and leadership.
Learning Outcome
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- To consider and assess the trends, experiences and achievements of men and women leaders and shaping a discussion for the role of women in society and what the future looks like for women leaders.
